A New Display Garden at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, IN
The Indianapolis Hosta Society is working to create something beautiful for our fellow Hoosiers and other visitors to the Indianapolis area. We are designing a public display garden with numerous specimens of the genus Hosta as the focus. The setting for this gem is adjacent to the mansion in Hamilton County’s Coxhall Gardens, in Carmel, Indiana.
The newest Hosta plants on the market will join many historically popular cultivars. Sizes will range from the cutest little minis to the most impressive giant selections. Once completed, the garden will include hundreds of different varieties of the fabulous “Friendship Plant.”
Hardscape levels are separated by large boulders, and the entire garden is irrigated. The varied elevations are shaded by towering native trees and will be accented by a variety of conifers, Japanese maples, colorful redbuds, and other understory trees to create contrast, color, and texture in the garden. Companion shade perennials and shrubs will add to the diversity of this rich landscape.
The garden will offer beautiful ideas for homeowners to emulate in their residential landscapes. Updates will be provided to keep everyone informed about upcoming volunteer workdays and other events happening in the garden.
