The first gathering of Indianapolis hosta enthusiasts occurred in 1986 when Clyde Crockett hosted a meeting created by Marge Soules, owner of Soules Gardens.  Marge, a member of the American Hosta Society, had volunteered Indianapolis to host a national hosta convention.  She invited those customers she felt would be receptive to an organization that would help produce such a venture.  As a result of this a subsequent meetings, the name ‘Indianapolis’ was selected over the name Indiana for our local society. 

Those in attendance at that initial meeting were Marge Soules, Clyde Crockett, Norma Jean Bosworth, Nancy Broyles, Ann January, Randy Goodwin, and Carolyn Harstad.  Ann was elected at the first society president and producer of the society’s first national convention. 

The Indianapolis Hosta Society, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization of hosta gardeners dedicated to stimulating the knowledge and love of the genus Hosta. The Indianapolis Hosta Society was incorporated in the State of Indiana on July 9, 1998 and qualified provisionally as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in 1999.
